The CHEERS DREAM has been featured in Surgical Products Magazine, an online platform for insights on the latest surgical procedures, surgical product technology, infection control techniques, material trends, and much more.

The article focuses on the two week study undertaken by the CHEERS DREAM team that looked at how fluid and food consumption impacted on patient outcomes. They also looked out how patients complied with the instructions given to them. Results showed that:

  • 52.4 percent of 103 patients had consumed 30ml aliquots of water up to an hour before surgery
  • 6.8 percent had consumed a carbohydrate drink
  • 85.4 percent were drinking fluids in recovery postoperatively, with only 7/103 (6.7 percent) reporting postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV)
  • About 80 percent were eating and drinking in recovery
  • About 50 percent no longer needed an IV in recovery

The ultimate goal is to have patients consuming food up to six hours before surgery and consuming fluids, including carbohydrate-heavy drinks, up to two hours before surgery.
